JOHN HOWIE AWARD
DTLA Members:
At DTLA’s monthly membership meeting in October, DTLA will present the John Howie Award to the DTLA Member(s) best exemplifying the attributes that made John Howie such an inspiration to DTLA members and a true champion of our cause. Please take time to consider and nominate DTLA members who deserve recognition for carrying the torch once carried by John Howie.
The John Howie Award will be awarded to a DTLA member and his or her clients for “the courageous pursuit of justice in the face of adversity” in a particular case.
All current DTLA members in good standing, and their clients, are eligible for this award. More than one attorney may receive the award if, for example, two attorneys co-counseled a case.
The DTLA Board of Directors will choose the winners of the award by a simple majority vote at the September board meeting before DTLA’s October lunch meeting.
The “pursuit of justice in the face of adversity” need not necessarily have resulted in a favorable outcome because the award honors the courageous pursuit of justice. Some fights just have to be fought, regardless of the probable or eventual outcome.
The award will be presented at the DTLA Annual Membership Lunch Meeting in October. The lawyer’s clients, or representatives of the estate of the clients, will be DTLA’s special invited guests at this meeting. The lawyer and the clients (if the clients are inclined to do so) will speak to DTLA’s membership. The preference is to hear from the clients, in addition to hearing from the lawyer, if at all possible.
